The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Premila Kumar, met with teachers and students of Year 12 and Year 13 in Levuka for a talanoa session.
While speaking to more than one hundred attendees, Minister Kumar highlighted that there are scholarships and loan schemes made available for students to pursue their dreams.
"For Early Childhood Education to Year 3, students will be focusing mainly on numeracy, literacy, physical education, gardening, and vernacular and there will be no tests,” she said.
"If we build a very strong foundation for our children then they will be able to do better and move to higher learnings,” she added.
Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was also present at the talanoa session and highlighted that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fijian Government continued with its essential services, which included maintaining full pay for civil servants.
He also spoke about the Government's initiative to connect the unconnected to internet services, particularly in rural and maritime areas, to strengthen students' learning, and encouraged teachers present to make submissions to the Ministry of Education in preparation for the mini-budget expected later this month.
