MINISTER RADRODRO CONTINUES NATIONWIDE EDUCATION DRIVE WITH NAMUKA DISTRICT

24/01/2026

The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Masivou Radrodro, this week officially commissioned Namuka Secondary School, thereby fulfilling a long-held dream of the Namuka community and advancing the People’s Coalition Government’s nationwide commitment to expanding access to secondary education across Fiji.

The commissioning follows the opening of two new secondary schools in the Western Division—Nadroga Navosa Provincial Secondary School in Nadroga and Ratu Meli Memorial School in Dratabu, Nadi—as well as the commissioning of Naweni Secondary School in Cakaudrove, Vanua Levu, highlighting a coordinated and sustained effort to bring education closer to communities in every division.

Minister Radrodro had visited Namuka in 2024, during which the late Tui Namuka, Ratu TeVita Navurelevu Niumataiwalu had formally requested the establishment of a secondary school for the district.

That vision has been realised, ensuring that the children of Namuka will have access to quality secondary education for generations to come.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Radrodro said education remains the most effective tool for addressing poverty, inequality, and emerging social challenges, particularly in rural communities.

“Education breaks the cycle of poverty, opens doors to opportunity, and equips our young people with the skills and values to make positive choices. When we invest in education, we invest in stronger families, safer communities, and a more resilient nation,” Minister Radrodro said.

Namuka Secondary School opens with 15 students—10 in Year 9 and 5 in Year 10—drawn from 10 feeder villages and three primary schools: Druadrua District School, Namuka District School, and Namuka I Cake Primary School.

Enrollment numbers are expected to increase as the school becomes fully established.

The school is housed in an existing building that was originally constructed in the late 1940s, giving the site a rich history of service to the community and continuing its legacy through the education of future generations.

Minister Radrodro also highlighted the Government’s ongoing support for families through the $200 Back-to-School Assistance and the eTransport programme, easing financial pressures and supporting regular school attendance.

He commended the Interim School Board, school management, teachers, Ministry officials, and the wider Namuka community for their dedication and collective effort in turning a long-held vision into reality.

The opening of Namuka Secondary School stands as a symbol of strong partnership between Government, traditional leadership, and community, and reaffirms the Government’s commitment to inclusive, accessible, and quality education for all Fijians.
