The Minister for Policing and Communications, Hon. Ioane Naivalurua, together with the Permanent Secretary for Policing and Communications, Mr. Berenado Daveta, recently met with representatives of the Survivor Support, Empowerment, Society, and Culture Working Group and the Industry and Technology Response Working Group of the National Taskforce to Address Pornography, as well as the Secretariat of the Taskforce, to receive a comprehensive update on the progress of ongoing initiatives.
The National Taskforce’s first workstream focuses on addressing Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA), a priority area for Government in safeguarding the wellbeing of children and vulnerable communities in Fiji.
During the briefing, the Secretariat outlined the Taskforce’s mandate, structure, and key work undertaken to date. Representatives from both Working Groups presented detailed progress reports covering current activities, emerging challenges, and planned interventions aimed at strengthening national responses to OCSEA.
The Minister acknowledged the substantive efforts carried out to date and reaffirmed the Government’s unwavering commitment to protecting Fijian children and communities from online harms. He underscored the pivotal role of the Taskforce in advancing a coordinated, multi-agency approach to addressing OCSEA, noting that effective collaboration and timely interventions are essential in mitigating risks to vulnerable groups.
The Minister further encouraged the Working Groups to sustain their momentum and continue strengthening engagement with relevant stakeholders to ensure the delivery of a comprehensive, effective, and enduring national response.
