The Minister for Education Hon Mahendra Reddy has assured the people of Namosi that Government stands ready to provide assistance to them in terms of their education needs.
This follows several requests by villagers and teachers of Wainimakutu and nearby areas in Namosi for an improvement in school infrastructure during the Minister’s visit to the province this week.
Minister Reddy highlighted that a number of projects have been earmarked for the schools in the province and stated that it was Government’s main priority to make learning easier and accessible in all the divisions.
“We will provide funds for a teachers quarters to be constructed in Wainimakutu before December and we will look at other projects next year,” Minister Reddy said.
“There are also plans to also develop the libraries in both primary and secondary schools. Primary and secondary schools that are situated in the same compound will have one library only and share a computer lab.”
Minister Reddy added that all development works that will be carried out for Namosi will benefit the students and the whole community making education accessible to all.
Director Secondary Education Timoci Bure said the Ministry needed honest people in the education system.
“We are able to implement projects and improve infrastructure but the onus is on principals and managers to be more transparent. We want teachers to work hard and school managers to be more accountable ,” Mr Bure said.
The Ministry of Education has also received other requests for assistance in the province and they will be working on them soon.
