MINISTER TO VISIT KORO ISLAND TO ADDRESS EMPLOYMENT GRIEVANCES

The Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Mr Jone Usamate will hold Public Consultations on Koro Island from 25th to 30th June.

The consultations are part of efforts to create awareness on the Ministry’s services and address employment related matters raised by workers, employers and stakeholders.

“The objectives these meetings to hear and address employment grievances raised by workers and create awareness on workers and employers’ rights and responsibilities under the labour laws, including the new National Minimum Wage Regulations, its scope, benefits and application,” Mr Usamate said.

He highlighted that this is part of the Ministry’s initiative to ensure that its services reach people living in the most rural and remote areas of Fiji.

“We are adamant to ensure that social justice prevails for all workers and good-faith employment

relationships are established to achieve productive and rewarding workplaces in Fiji,” the Minister added.

As part of the tour, the Minister and his team will also be visiting schools around the Island to distribute Library books and address school students on career decisions and academic advancement.

Mr Usamate urged all workers and employers, especially those operating Small Businesses and those engaged in Informal Employment to attend these meetings to be abreast with the current labour laws.

The Minister and his team will hold community meetings in Nabasovi, Mudu, Kade, Nacamaki and Nasau villages.
