The Ministry of Youth and Sports was provided an opportunity to present an update on Fiji pertaining to Youth and Sports development,highlighting relevant MSG sporting issues during the 2nd MSG Sports Ministers Meeting (SMM2) at Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi yesterday (30.06.22).
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Parveen Kumar Bala presented the statement of country updates on Fiji, highlighting that the increase in costs to attend regional and international games serves as one of the biggest challenges the Fijian Government faces.
Minister Bala stated that the MSG countries work together to encourage community physical activities and recreational physical activities to combat huge problems faced in the pacific with NCD’s and most recently the Covid -19 pandemic.
He further said that the Fijian Government is taking big steps to ensure that sports are always a force for good.
“Fiji has welcomed the equal opportunity to have gender balance for women in sports administration and paving the way for other women sports administrators in their executive roles,” he said.
“We work closely with the Fiji National Sports Commission and our National Sports Organisations to increase the mutual benefits, beneficial cohesion between youth and sports development.”
However,he said sports development is about everyone as a whole and not just the youth.
The SMM2 held in Nadi provided an opportunity to highlight areas in sports that need attention in the individual member countries of the MSG.
