MINISTRY CLEARS BACKLOG OF ANNUAL REPORTS, STRENGTHENING GOVERNANCE AND ACCOUNTABILITY

29/12/2025

The Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport has successfully completed and finalised its outstanding annual reports covering the 2019/2020 to 2023/2024 financial years, marking a major milestone in strengthening governance, accountability and institutional performance.

The clearance of these pending reports reflects a focused and coordinated effort by the Ministry to restore full compliance with statutory reporting obligations and ensure that planning, performance outcomes and budget execution are properly documented and audited.

Since the Coalition Government assumed office in December 2022, there has been a renewed emphasis on sound public financial management, transparent reporting, and timely auditing. The completion of these reports enables the Ministry to clearly account for its programmes, projects and expenditures, while providing Parliament and the public with a consolidated record of its work over multiple financial years.

The reports have been prepared in line with requirements set by the Parliament of Fiji and will be subjected to audit review by the Office of the Auditor-General, reinforcing the integrity of the reporting process.

Beyond compliance, the exercise has strengthened internal systems within the Ministry, improving record-keeping, coordination across departments, and alignment between annual work plans, budgets and reported outcomes. This positions the Ministry on a stronger footing to meet future reporting deadlines and sustain improved governance standards.

The completed annual reports are scheduled to be tabled before Cabinet and Parliament next month, where they will undergo parliamentary scrutiny through the relevant committees, further supporting transparency and accountability within the public sector.

This achievement underscores the Ministry’s commitment to institutional reform, responsible stewardship of public resources, and adherence to good governance principles.
