MINISTRY ENVISIONS $2BILLION INDUSTRY FOR TOURISM SECTOR

The Government has set a vision to create a $2billion tourism industry by 2020 with new investments and effective collaboration with the private sector.

The Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism and Lands and Mineral Resources, Hon Faiyaz Koya launched the inaugural World Tourism Day 2016 at Sukuna Park with the theme: “Tourism for all – promoting universal accessibility”.

Minister Koya said to achieve this vision, Government would put in place marketing strategies that are focused, result oriented and measurable.

“We are having new market opportunities opening up with the introduction of the Singapore and San Francisco flights. Fiji has positioned itself highly in a competitive global tourism market and the Fijian Government will continue to invest in its marketing arm – Tourism Fiji,” Koya said.

Minister Koya said services provided by the tourism industry must be accessible to all regardless of location, transport and communication accessibility, age and physical limitation.

“The Fijian Government through my ministry is implementing a number of initiatives such as the Fijian Tourism Development Plan (TDP) which will ensure relevant stakeholders have access to information to guide the sustainable development of our tourism industry.”

The Minister said the TDP will improve quality and accessibility to tourism offerings through increased transportation links for both domestic and international travel, improve access to infrastructure, address human resources development needs, increase value of tourism products, provide investment enablers and promote environmental sustainability.

He added that with leadership at Tourism Fiji and continued support from all industry stakeholders, the ministry would ensure their marketing strategies are effectively and efficiently implemented that will bring about targeted returns.
