The Minister for Education Hon. Mahendra Reddy today handed over 210 tablets to nine schools in the Namosi Province.
Around 5000 tablets were donated by the Indian government and the first set of tablets were handed over today.
Speaking at the Wainimakutu Secondary School, Minister Reddy said the assistance from the Government of India was always welcome as Fiji and India have strong bilateral relations.
“Today what we see is a culmination of this support which has resulted in the supply of 5000 tablets to help us boost the students learning environment,” Minister Reddy said.
“There is a major IT revolution in the world and we need to keep up and ensure our students are not deprived of this environment,” he said.
Wainimakutu villager Aminiasi Rakula commended government on the assistance provided and highlighted that this was the first of its kind for their village.
“We thank Government for not forgetting the people who live in interior areas like us, and we also thank the Indian government for all that they have done,” Mr Rakula said.
“This assistance will very much boost the education of our children and we hope that more assistance will be on its way,” he said.
The nine schools that received tablets today include Wainimakutu Primary, Wainimakutu Secondary, Naqarawai SDA Primary, Navunikabi Primary , Nakavika Primary, Namosi Primary, Namosi Secondary, Waiyavu Primary and Veinuqa District School
