14/07/2014

The Permanent Secretary of the Public Service, Mr. Parmesh Chand, yesterday commissioned the refurbished Western Division Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources Office in Lautoka.

A sum of $47,025.00 was devoted to the refurbishment of the government owned premises with an additional $24,190.00 spent on the installation and servicing of air conditioning units.

Speaking as Chief Guest at the event, Mr Chand said that it is a re-affirmation of Government’s commitment to ensuring the provision of quality facilities and services to ordinary members of the Public who are in need of Government’s assistance.

“The Public Service Commission is working closely with ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Lands & Mineral Resources, to provide a level of comfort not only to those using our services but to the staff that work therein, leading to an improvement of service delivery across the board.”

Last year, the FIji government paid slightly over $26.2 million for rental of premises from private landlords and has allocated $1 million dollars to allow for the purchases of office fitting and renovations. Mr Chand said that this is all seen as an investment by the Fiji Government as it recognizes the private sector as a partner and engine of economic growth to spur economic activity.

Deputy Secretary for the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, Mr Malakai Nalawa, thanked the Public Service Commission for their assistance in the refurbishment works that would prove beneficial for the ordinary citizens of the public.
