MINISTRY PROVIDES PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TO SCHOOLS TO SUPPORT SAFE RETURN OF CHILDREN UNDER COVID CONDITIONS

More than 300 students from Ba Sanatan College will benefit from the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that was handed over by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar at the Ba Sanatan College on Thursday.

Minister Akbar said the COVID-19 response supplies were provided by the Ministry to support and contribute to the Ministry of Education’s efforts to keep schools safe during the pandemic, and in ensuring the safety and welfare of children and education staff during the current wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Schools play a key role in children’s learning, development, safety and wellbeing. For this reason, it is very important that we implement and support every possible safety and prevention measures in schools, to ensure that children and teachers return safely to school. We hope that the supplies handed over today will contribute towards keeping schools safe so that children can continue learning. When schools are closed, majority of children struggle with learning and this puts their whole future at risk,” stated Minister Akbar.

Minister Akbar expressed her gratitude to the Ba Women’s Forum for the production and supply of the cloth face masks which is a Fijian Made product. She also commended the students and teachers and wished them a fruitful and blessed academic year. 

The Principal of Ba Sangam College, Mr Jagat Ram acknowledged the Fijian Government’s support in the fight against COVID-19 and its leadership for continuing to improve access to quality education for all Fijian children.

The supplies handed over on Thursday consisted of 3000 cloth face masks, 20 cartons of hand sanitizers, and 15 water purifiers.
