MINISTRY SCRAPS ENTRY POLICIES FOR FORM 7 STUDIES

21/01/2014

The Minister for Education, National Heritage, Culture, Arts and Library Services, Filipe Bole announced to his Senior Staff today that all policies and regulations regarding student entry into Form Seven studies are to be removed.

Minister Bole said that any student who passes form six is to be allowed to continue with the form seven education.

“As of today, all students who pass the Fiji School Leaving Certificate Examination are to be allowed to get into form seven. All regulations and policies about entering form seven are to be scrapped,” announced the Minister in his monthly meeting with his Senior Staff today.

The decision behind the announcement is to allow students to freely continue their secondary education. This move will also assist in achieving Pillar 9 of the People’s Charter which is making Fiji a knowledge - based society.

“We have continued to open form seven education in all parts of the country for the last four years in our quest to bring education to our communities so we need to allow all those students who pass their form six examinations to enter form seven irrespective of the marks they attained. We will also be able to achieve Pillar 9 of the People’s Charter, added Ambassador Bole.

School Principals and school managements are to take heed of the Minister’s announcement and not turn away students because they do not attain the 250 or 230 marks which are usually the entry marks into form seven.

There are 158 form seven centres in the country. The newest form seven centres opened in 2013 are at Rotuma High School, Nabala Secondary School, Ratu Luke Memorial and Kalabu Secondary School.
