A new chapter unfolded for the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management yesterday (28/12/22) as staff members and members of the senior management officially welcomed its two newly elected leaders – Honourable Sakiasi Ditoka and Honourable Jovesa Vocea.

Honourable Ditoka takes over the helm of leadership at the Ministry as the new Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management while Honourable Vocea takes up the position of Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management.

On their first day in office, the two leaders were provided with a comprehensive overview brief by the senior management team of the Ministry’s core functions, responsibilities and activities of the Ministry.

They also had the opportunity to meet with staff members serving in the Central, Eastern, Western and Northern Divisions and those based at Headquarters in Suva.

In his first Ministerial address to the Ministry’s staff yesterday, Honourable Ditoka acknowledged the Ministry and all staff members for the work already being done. He said the new Government stood ready to support the Ministry in progressing our service to those who most need it.

Minister Ditoka also assured all staff members that Government would be taking a very consultative approach in its operation and would provide a conducive, caring and professional working environment for all civil servants.

“We are not going to be vindictive. Let’s look out for each other, help one another and love each other as we move forward together,” Hon. Ditoka assured staff members of the Ministry.
