The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, yesterday (1.07.25) announced the Cabinet-endorsed launch of the Fiji Education Commission. This significant initiative underscores the Coalition Government's commitment to building a world-class, future-ready education system.
Minister Radrodro emphasised the Commission's profound national importance, declaring it "not just an administrative formality. It is a national moment."
Dr. Vijay Naidu was appointed Head of the Commission by Minister Radrodro based on recommendations from the commissioners during their inaugural meeting.
Newly appointed Commissioners are: Mr. Filipe Jitoko, Ms. Kelera Taloga, Dr. Lavenia Tiko, Dr. Priscilla Puamau, Dr. Kesaia Seniloli, Mr. Arvind Maharaj and Mrs. Ana Raivoce.
The Commission's mandate is to conduct a comprehensive review and reform of Fiji's national education system.
This includes:
Examining administrative structures
Assessing the national curriculum
Evaluating teacher training
Analysing TVET and skills-based training
Reviewing digital learning
Focusing on early childhood and inclusive education
Evaluating financing and governance
Scrutinising education policies and data
A secretariat team has been appointed to provide technical, consultation, and coordination support.
Minister Radrodro reminded the Commissioners to recognise the trust placed in them. "You are not just reviewing policies; you are shaping the future of learning in this country."
This initiative marks the start of a movement to ensure Fiji’s education system is relevant, inclusive, resilient, and proudly Fijian, ultimately lifting every learner, strengthening every community, and preparing the nation for future opportunities.
