MORE DRILLS NEEDED FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS AT FNU AND USP

09/03/2019

A total of 2,361 people participated this week on the Tsunami Drill that was held at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji National University and the Fiji Sports Council.

The National Disaster Management Office managed to identify some areas that needed to be improved including more awareness for students and teachers to familiarise themselves on their Tsunami Evacuation Plan that the schools have provided.

The NDMO believes that more wardens are to be allocated in the future to look after the different areas within their agencies.

This will assist with the command and control of evacuees to their safe zones.

The six (6) campuses from the two tertiary institutions that participated are FNU Maritime, FNU NTPC, USP Main campus, USP Statham Campus, and USP Marine Campus.

The NDMO would like to thank the two tertiary institutions, students and teachers for executing their response plan.

NDMO also welcomes any feedbacks and comments from the general public on the live test in terms of the clarity of the sound of the sirens and the adequacy of the acoustic range. Comments are to be sent to neocfiji@gmail.com.
