Government has identified a site for the relocation of the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO).
The NDMO in partnership with the Public Service Commission (PSC) have identified the former Ministry of Education headquarters building at Selbourne Street, Suva serve as the dedicated Office for National Disaster Management.
The Director NDMO, Manasa Tagicakibau said they are at the initial stages having just identified the property and that there will need to be renovation works done to the building so as to configure the space to be conducive to a national disaster management centre.
PSC Permanent Secretary, Parmesh Chand said that the appropriate provision exists in this year’s budget to effect the required repairs and fit-outs to this strategically located building.
It is the Prime Minister’s vision to set up a dedicated Office for the National Disaster Management given Fiji’s resolve to deal decisively in preparing and tackling disasters and also in effectively dealing with all matters pertaining to after effects.
The renovation work will commence as soon as the Ministry of Education relocates its Examination Unit from the building to another suitable building by end of March and all works is expected to be completed by end of June 2014.
