Cabinet this week agreed that more bus companies and schools in the Suva – Nausori corridor be added to the existing list of schools and companies that are part of the e-ticketing pilot program.
This decision was based on a submission by the Minister for Works, Transport and Public Utilities, Timoci Lesi Natuva who said that in addition to the inclusion of more schools and buses under the pilot program, there will also be changes to the program’s roll-out timelines.
The additional schools are Suva Grammar School, Cathedral Secondary School, Draiba Primary School, Marist Brothers High School, and Jay Narayan College.
The five schools currently under the program are Adi Cakobau School, Rambisessor Chaudhary Memorial, Tacirua Bhatriya Primary School, Saraswati Primary School, and Saraswati College.
The additional bus companies include Tebara Buses, City Lines, Shore Buses, Dee Cees, and Island Buses. Tacirua Buses is currently under the program
Under the new timelines, the inclusion of the non – subsidized students for this program will be moved to the latter half of the Second Term of the school year.
The general public under the open category are expected to be included in this program in the Third Term of the 2012 school year.
The Prime Minister had officially launched e-ticket machines on 15th November 2011 at Adi Cakobau School.
The Minister said that the installation of e-ticket machines in buses is a milestone project that will revolutionize the land transport industry in Fiji.
He said that this project will not only benefit the travelling public but the Fiji Bus Industry as well.
