Prime Minister and Commander of the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama says the military will work strategically in alignment with the People’s Charter for Change, Peace and Progress from next year.
“Senior officers of the military are now working towards finalising a corporate plan that will act as guide as to how we will integrate our roles into the charter,” Commodore Bainimarama said in his address to officers at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks on Friday.
“We will ensure to carry out activities that will effectively meet objectives outlined in pillars of the charter.
“Senior military officers and unit managers will be attending a workshop next week to map ways of achieving this and finalise plans for the military.”
It is understood that work to finalise the RFMF’s first-ever corporate plan for the institution is underway.
The document, when complete will synchronize the Commander’s Intent, Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress and the Roadmap.
He said this would effectively implement the pillars of the charter and help move the country forward.
Commodore Bainimarama thanked members of the military for their confidence in the charter document.
“We have been through a lot as an institution,” the RFMF Commander said.
“We were rejected, ridiculed and mocked for our belief and stance taken in the drafting and campaign for the charter.
“I’m proud to say the majority in our nation have supported the document as the way forward and I thank all of you.
“The challenge in 2011 is for us to ensure that we maintain our stance and work towards the successful implementation of the charter and to achieve its goal.
“Let’s all work together in making Fiji a better place for our future generations,” he said.
