The Minister for Defence, National Security and Immigration, Mr Joketani Cokanasiga is currently in Jakarta leading a high level delegation for the signing of a Police Cooperation Agreement with the Indonesian National Police later today.
Prior to the signing, the ministerial delegation accompanied by Fiji’s Ambassador to Indonesia Ratu Tui Cavuilati, visited a weapons-making factory in Bandung, two hours drive away from the capital. The Minister was able to see at first hand the process of making armoured vehicles and light weapons by the State-owned Company, PT.
Mr Cokanasiga and his delegation was also able to see a consignment of weapons recently ordered for the Fiji Military Forces which will be dispatched shortly.
The delegation also met with the Secretary to the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Dr Hotmangaradja Pandjaitan, M.H on Tuesday and was later treated to a welcome dinner by the Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Mr Timur Pradopo and his senior staff.
The Fiji delegation will also be meeting with Admiral Agus Suhartono, Commander-in-Chief of the Indonesian Military on Wednesday afternoon before visiting the Military Academy in Magelang, the Police Academy and the Jakarta Center for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) in Semarang, both outside of Jakarta on Thursday and Friday respectively.
The delegation which includes the Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Iowane Naivalurua, Land Force Commander of the Fiji Military Forces, Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga, Senior Suprintendent of Police, Mr Maretino Qiolevu and Mr Joji Dumukoro of the Ministry of Defence will return to Fiji on Saturday.
