The Bainimarama Government has placed special focus and strong commitment to maintaining an enabling environment where people conduct their lives together to build a better and prosperous Fiji, says the Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni.

Dr Luveni officially launching the Community Policing Symposium
During the launching of the symposium held at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova yesterday, the minister said community policing already existed in Fiji, and Government believed everyone should have the opportunity to live in a safe and secure community.
She reiterated that Government’s framework for change has trickled down to the grassroots’ level impacting the various communities in the country.
Commissioner of Police, Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua, said the symposium would provide an opportunity for all to participate and contribute to building knowledge about effective community policing practices.
“The greatest challenge now is how best the Fiji Police and the communities can work in collaboration to strengthen their coordination in building a safe and secure landscape for our nation,” Brigadier General Naivalurua said.
The first of its kind symposium was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corp, permanent secretaries, and senior government officials and will feature presentations from senior government officials, local community leaders, youth leaders, and panel discussions.
The symposium will close today with a presentation of certificates by the Shangri-la Resort & Spa managing director, Mr Radike Qereqeretabua.
