In keeping with its current policy of improving the education sector, the Minister for education, Mr. Filipe Bole visited Vunimono High School yesterday. The minister who was accompanied by various personnel from the education ministry proved to be a timely morale booster for students preparing to sit their external examinations.
In his speech to students, staff and management, Mr. Bole assured all concerned of the importance of education and the Government’s commitment to addressing grievances.
According to school reports delivered by the principal Ajay Nand, the school faced staff shortages as well as insufficient teaching resources to cater for more than 2,000 students. This according to the minister is one of the key areas that the ministry is looking at to increase quality pass rates in schools.
The ministry is also re-appointing school inspectors whose main role is to monitor and report on the performance of the teaching staff. So far, more than sixty of these inspectors have already begun working in both primary and secondary schools around the country.
By introducing new methods of monitoring progress, the minister is confident that a fluctuating trend in exam results will be minimized in the near future. He also stressed the importance of obtaining not only a basic pass rate, but more importantly, a quality one at that.
Mr. Bole also praised the effort of staff and parents in placing emphasis on student welfare despite the sharp rise in costly conditions for many families.
His visit also coincided with the opening of the new Sanatan Dharam Mahamandal Headquarters, which is also located at the high school.
Prior to his visit to Vunimono, the Minister had visited Nasinu Secondary School earlier in the day.
