Ministry Addresses School Dropout Issue

27/01/2011

The Ministry of Education and the Fijian Government have provided strategies to address school dropouts.

“The removal of the three external examinations, the Fiji Intermediate,  Fiji Eighth Year and the Fiji Junior will enable students to reach Form Six thus fulfilling 12 years of basic education,” said the Minister for Education, Mr Filipe Bole.

Students will be promoted to the next level without having to sit any national examinations until they reach Form Six.

“The Ministry of Education through its divisional and district offices are implementing initiatives as the ‘Tabutabu vuli campaign’  in Ra to help curb the problem  of school dropouts. In 2010, 15 students from Vatukacevaceva in Ra were put into the school system. There are plans for the Ra District in 2011,” Mr Bole said.

“With the removal of three national examinations, there should be a decrease in school dropouts.”
