The Ministry of Education applauds Lami Primary School management for allowing children to attend school even though their parents are finding it hard to pay school levies upfront.

“The decision of the Lami Primary School management to accept children with or without levies paid upfront is highly appreciated,” the Minister of Education Mr Filipe Bole said.

“Such attitude is a display of kindness and understanding of the difficulties many of our parents are facing. However, parents of children attending Lami Primary School must also understand this kind gesture is to give them time to pay school levies, which is about $10 per child for each term.”

According to LPS head teacher  the management agreed that all children who wish to attend school there be allowed to enroll without worrying about school levies paid up during enrolment.

Meanwhile, the ministry is beginning to tell school head teachers and management through a circular, that each primary school student should pay only $10 per term. Any amount charged above that should be approved by the Ministry of Education permanent secretary.

The ministry intends to review its funding assistance to primary schools.
