Ministry launches newsletter

The Ministry of Local Government, Urban Development, Housing & Environment this morning launched its first ministry newsletter called ‘The Sustainer’.

The launch of the newsletter is seen as a development effort by the ministry to widely inform the public on their services, achievements and other resourceful information.

Officiated by the head of the ministry Minister Colonel Samuela Saumatua, the purpose of the newsletter is to enable the public to be aware of the various departments that comes under the ministry. According to Colonel Saumatua, the newsletter will raise the ministry’s image and include the ministry achievements.
 
“It was determined at the beginning of the year to have a newsletter for first quarter. This publication is a class and an effort from my staff and it is our obligation to inform the people what we have done and achieved for them,” Col Saumatua said.
The minister applauded his staff for the effort and said it is an important achievement.

The ministry also plans to publish the newsletter in vernacular in the future .
 
Local Government permanent secretary Mrs Taina Tagicakibau said the newsletter is a direct form of information for the public on the ministry’s work and aims to highlight the vision of sustainable development.
 
The newsletter contains some of  achievements of the first quarter mainly:
 
-          Environment sustainability (Commemoration of world wetlands day Feb 2nd , clean up campaigns along Lami –Wainadoi corridors, Tavua solar street lights installation and International Year of Biodiversity communication strategy)

-          Volivoli water project, Environment Awareness Bus, Litter Decree, Fiji’s 1st natural resource inventory

-          Decent and affordable housing 2020 (Squatter upgrading development projects such as Bangladesh and Lakena)

-          National Housing Policy

-          Declaration of Rakiraki Town

 This development aligns itself with pillar 9 of the Peoples Charter which is to make Fiji a knowledge-based society.
