Ministry of Education changes guard

At a morning tea at Marela House, Suva, this morning (Thursday, 01/04/10), senior staff of the Ministry of Education, National Heritage Culture & Arts, Youth & Sports welcomed their new Acting Permanent Secretary, Ms Rokobua Naiyaga.

Ms Naiyaga was Deputy Secretary Professional in the Ministry of Education. She assumes the role of the Permanent Secretary and replaces Mr Filipe Jitoko, who has taken up the Social Policy Advisor post at the Forum Secretariat.

Ms Naiyaga is a teacher by profession and has taught for over 20 years. During her teaching career, she was a principal of Adi Cakobau School and Nasinu Secondary School.

In 2003, she left the education sector on promotion to join the Prime Minister’s office as Chief Assistant Secretary, Social Sector, in the Policy Analysis and Advisory Unit. Towards the end of 2008, she returned to the Ministry of Education as Deputy Secretary Professional.

In his words of welcome to Ms Naiyaga, Deputy Secretary (Primary & Secondary Education), Dr Brij Lal pledged the support of the Ministry's senior staff to her leadership and administration.
