Ministry of Education to assist damaged schools

The Ministry of Education is posing to assist 144 schools both in the Northern  and Eastern Divisions.

Officials in the Ministry have identified about $1.6 million from its budgetary allocation to provide immediate assistance to affected schools.

This money is identified from the Grants and Tuition fees allocations.

However, costs of rebuilding classrooms and quarters destroyed in the cyclone will be the responsibility of the Provincial Development.

Aside from this the Ministry of Education is also assisting in the purchasing of exercise books, pens and pencils for affected  school children in both the Northern and Eastern divisions.

The Ministry of Education’s primary target is to provide immediate assistance to school communities badly affected by the cyclone so that they recover quickly.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Hon Filipe Bole will be visiting few schools in the North this week to inspect the damages caused by cyclone Tomas.
