The Ministry of Education continues to promote the teaching of vernacular in schools.
The effort is part of Pillars 5 & 9 of the Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress, which are initiatives to bring about peace and racial harmony into the country.
A total of $43,059 was paid out to 22 schools as grants for language teachers.
There are schools, which do not have language teachers for either vernacular. The grant is offered to licensed teachers who can teach the vernacular subjects and nothing else.
