The Fiji Police Force is concerned with recent reports from parents whose teenage children have been missing from their homes during the school holidays.
Reports at police stations around the country at the weekend recorded a substantial number of missing person cases of teenagers around 15 to 17-year-old.
“Many of these cases are children not informing their parents and guardians where they are or of their movements,” said Police spokesman Fred Elbourne.
“Some have turned up days later and were found to be with a relative or with friends or after they have been reported missing.
“So again we are urging parents to be aware of the movement of their children and likewise all should let their parents or guardians know where they go before leaving home.
“We have four cases in the southern region alone, this is a trend during holidays but it is usually not reported, which is why no action is taken, but it does put a strain on many families when they do not know where their loved ones are.”
Mr Elbourne said Police was also targeting removing drunkards off the streets during this festive season through constant visibility, they will continue with Operation New Dawn which is targeting children and teenagers.
