Mission refurbishments

30/11/2010

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation wants our missions overseas refurbished. There is an allocation of $400,000 for this. Ministry of Foreign Affairs corporate services director Losana Ravuso said Fiji needed to maintain its properties overseas. “We need to look after them, especially our chanceries and mission residences because they are our property- Fiji’s property,” Ms Ravuso said. “We need to look after our missions and make sure they are well maintained.”

Fiji’s 12 missions abroad are located in Brussels, London, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi, Beijing, Tokyo, Canberra, Wellington, Washington, New York, Port Moresby and a consul general office in Sydney.

“We do a mission a year and this year we refurbished the Wellington mission. Next year we are looking at Canberra and half of another mission. So it is
always rotating,” Ravuso said.

Meanwhile, Fiji will open three new missions next year: In Brazil, Indonesia and South Africa.

This will help Fiji develop areas of trade and tourism.
