Mobile weather or weather on the go - that's the new cellphone subscriber service partnership between the Fiji Meteorological Service and Digicel.
The Digicel/Fiji Met Service weather subscription initiative was launched today (23/04) and is available to all Digicel mobile phone consumers.
Director Fiji Meteorological Service Mr Rajendra Prasad: "This is part of the Fiji Meteorological Service's efforts to look for new ways to deliver weather forecasts to the people of Fiji and around the South West Pacific."
To access weather updates on Digicel handsets, customers will need to subscribe to the service. The new service will include daily weather forecasts provided by the Nadi weather office at 7am daily for the different regions around the Fiji group (central, west, north, south, and Rotuma).
Digicel Fiji's marketing director Ms Niamh Byrne said Digicel is "delighted to be partnering with the Fiji Meteorological Service to provide this useful service to our customers."
"This is a natural progression from our working with DISMAC recently to provide regular updates to our customers during Cyclone Tomas' passage through the Fiji group."
In the immediate future, Mr Prasad says Digicel cellphone customers may be able to view weather RADAR images from the Nadi and Nausori RADARS.
The Fiji Meteorological Service recognises Digicel’s efforts to ensure customers have access to relevant weather information.
