More improvement needed - AG

Civil servants in the Western division have been reminded of the need to improve public service delivery.

Speaking to civil servants in the West, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Mr Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said there is still quite a lot of work  needed in order to improve the level of service delivered by the public service.

“There are a number of challenges that we all have, some of them are based on the lack of resources, some of them are based on the terms and conditions of the Civil Service, but obviously these are some of the challenges that we ourselves can change from today, from now and that requires attitudinal changes, that requires a different and new approach to how we interact with those that come to visit us; those who are our clients,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“Just to put it into perspective the Western division, probably, has always been to an extent neglected and Suva has always been the focus but if you look at the economy of Fiji, the economic base of Fiji comes from the Western division.”

The Minister said the Western division is blessed with Fiji’s natural resource base in  tourism, sugar, timber, and gold.

“In as far as investment, business and service delivery is concerned, the fact is there has been quite a number of migration to the Western division particularly the Nadi, Lautoka corridor, you actually have an amorous task in terms of enabling the investment environment,” he said.

“Please don’t think everything is happening in Suva, it also happens in the West and you are an integral part of the changes taking place.”
