Music appeal

The Fiji National University in partnership with the Ministry of Information yesterday (13 April 2010) launched its Hurricane Tomas Appeal Concert. The concert takes place April 24th at the Vodafone Arena.

Event coordinator Laisa Vulakoro said so far 18 groups have come on board for the concert which would include local artists, bands, and multi-cultural groups.

"We hope to raise $50,000 and this is an FNU and Ministry of Information fundraising drive to assist students, schools and families affected by the cyclone [Tomas] especially in the north,” Ms Vulakoro said.

The concert is expected to last seven hours with continuous music performances suitable for the whole family.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information Lt Col Neumi Leweni said the fundraiser in is line with the Prime Minister's Office intention to revive schools impacted by Cyclone Tomas.

"This is to reinforce Government's intentions to assist students and schools in rehabilitation,” Lt Col Leweni said.

“We are also inviting the Prime Minister during the concert and we thank all the sponsers and stakeholders that would be assisting us.”
