NADI TOWN TRAFFIC FLOW NEEDS TO BE REVIEWED – HON. KUMAR

19/06/2020

The Nadi town traffic flow needs to be reviewed.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Local Government, Housing and Community Development Hon. Premila Kumar after her meetings with Special Administrators and consultations with stakeholders such as ratepayers, market vendors, taxi operators and businesses recently.

The Nadi ratepayers and stakeholders expressed their concern regarding the current traffic flow in and out of town. The rate payers and stakeholders have stated that the one way route through Nadi town has had a major impact on their business and accessibility in the tourist town will slowly turning into a ghost town, if nothing is done.

The ratepayers and stakeholders have requested the authorities through the Minister for Local Government to review the current arrangement before Nadi is declared a city.

“I’ve noted their concerns and agreed to bring this to the attention of the Fiji Roads Authority with a view to finding a solution to the issue raised,” said Hon. Kumar.

The Minister added that since Nadi will be declared a city in October, there was a great need to sort out issues such as access to the town.

“This can only be done through a review and this must be done urgently,” Hon. Kumar stated.
