The Youth of Namataku district in Navosa have expressed their appreciation and gratitude after having successfully completed an empowerment training that was recently conducted by the Ministry of Youth & Sports.
While closing the weeklong training, the Ministry’s permanent secretary Josefa Sania reiterated the Ministry’s committed stance towards developing Fijian youth.
“Today marks the conclusion of the weeklong training which you have participated in and it is all in an effort to meet the requests that you had earlier brought to our attention during the Minister’s consultative visit at the beginning of the year.
“You had requested that empowerment training be brought to the district and that is why we have brought this basic leadership and agriculture training to your doorstep,” added Mr Sania.
He also reminded the youth and members of the community of government’s commitment towards developing rural communities through such workshops.
“This is part of the Government’s efforts through the Ministry to bring training such as this to youths to add onto the knowledge that you already possess so that you can use and effectively manage the abundant resources that is readily available to you. We are hopeful that after the completion of the leadership training you have undergone, you will be able to not only practice but spread its principles to your villages.”
“I hope that you will put into practice all that you have learnt as leaders of your communities and that is why this training was brought to this district, to further improve your leadership skills because as youths, you will one day become leaders of your individual families and communities,” said Mr Sania.
The permanent secretary also emphasised the importance of practicing the best farming practices taught at the workshop.
“Part of this empowerment training was also basic best agriculture practices because Government has noticed the abundance of resources in the country and we hope that you grasp the basic concepts which were taught to you in order for you to fully utilise your land and resources,” he said.
“I wish to also reiterate to you the youths of Namataku that you have the energy needed to achieve success, but you need to channel this energy in the right manner to get the desired result.
“I hope that this empowerment training will not be taken for granted and I urge you to implement all that you have learnt during the training for your own benefit,” Mr Sania said.
Ratu Avakuki Nasauturaga of Draiba village and a participant at the training thanked the Ministry for providing the timely training, as it was greatly needed by the youth and members of the community.
“We are very much grateful to the Ministry for bringing this empowerment training to us here in the highlands of Navosa because we had requested to have this training conducted here for youths of the district.
“It has enlightened us on the qualities needed of a leader and the importance of a good leader and also that of best farming practices because there is a vast array of land available in the province of Navosa and we are grateful that we have been taught what we needed to do to improve our agricultural yields and for that we are immensely pleased,” said Mr Nasauturaga.
