Speaking at the workshop's opening, Ministry of Education Deputy Secretary Primary/ Secondary Mr Timoci Bure said the ICT in Education Policy would play a transformative role in shaping the future of education in Fiji and the Pacific.
“The ICT in Education Policy is designed to align with the strategic policies and priorities outlined in Fiji's National Development Plan (NDP) 2025 - 2029 and Vision 2050 by focusing on equipping students with essential skills in technology, critical thinking, and problem-solving, which are crucial for fostering innovation and enhancing productivity in various sectors,” Mr Bure said.
“This policy will focus on bridging the digital divide, ensuring access to technology in remote areas, enhancing teacher training, and fostering partnerships with the private sector to create sustainable solutions.”
Mr Bure emphasised the importance of equitable access to devices, internet connectivity, and digital learning platforms, particularly in rural and underserved areas to enhance education through technology.
“Building teacher capacity is also crucial by offering professional development programs that empower educators to effectively integrate ICT into their teaching, promoting a culture of continuous learning and adaptation."
“Encouraging innovation within the education system is important, particularly through the development of local content that reflects Pacific cultures, while also exposing students to global best practices in digital education.”
