NATIONAL HOUSING POLICY 2025–2030 LAUNCHED

17/04/2025

The Minister for Housing and Local Government, Hon. Maciu Nalumisa, officially launched the Ministry of Housing’s National Housing Policy 2025–2030 at the Suva Civic Centre today (17.04.25).

Speaking at the launch, Hon. Nalumisa said the National Housing Policy is reinforced through the government's alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 11, which seeks to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

Minister Nalumisa stated that the launch of the National Housing Policy 2025–2030 marks a milestone achievement in reaffirming the government's commitment to achieving adequate, affordable, and inclusive housing for all Fijians.

“The housing sector holds a pivotal role in ensuring the provision of one of life’s most fundamental needs: adequate shelter and security of tenure for individuals and families across the nation.”

The Minister for Housing also said the Government’s role in housing is to regulate the housing market, encourage the provision of goods and services and provide housing assistance to the lower-income households that experience significant difficulties in accessing affordable and adequate housing.

“The successful implementation of this policy will require a whole-of-sector approach. We must work together across ministries, agencies, organisations, and communities to deliver tangible, lasting outcomes for our people.”
