This year’s 49th Fiji Day celebrations will be held around the country with the main celebrations to be held at Suva’s Albert Park.
Officiating at the Fiji Day Celebrations media launch today, Ministry of Defence and National Security Permanent Secretary Manasa Lesuma confirmed the nationwide celebrations will be held this Thursday on October 10 and one of the main highlights of the program is the parade by the disciplined forces.
“The main celebrations will be held at Suva’s Albert Park. Other celebrations will be held in Labasa, Levuka and in the Western division Fiji Day activities will be organised by visiting homes and orphanages in Nadi, Lautoka and Ba,” Mr Lesuma said.
"Government have always remembered the members of the society that are staying in Orphanages and Homes around the Country. This is the time of the year, where visitations are organised and residents and children presented with Gifts – they may not be able to join us in the celebration centres but the Spirit of Fiji Day is taken to their Homes instead!"
Mr Lesuma said the main program in Suva will begin with the Fiji Day parade by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Corrections Services.
He said the parade will be reviewed by His Excellency the President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote followed by entertainment by the National Fire Authority and the Search and Rescue Response agencies.
"We encourage All Fijians wherever you are in the country and around the globe to be part of this year’s event. We also invite friends who have called Fiji – Home and visitors to our shores to make this Fiji Day special by joining the celebration with us in the different divisions. Or even in your very own communities!
