NEC TO HOST RECRUITMENT DRIVE FOR AN AUSTRALIAN HOTEL

27/08/2019

The National Employment Centre's office in Namaka, Nadi will host a recruitment drive tomorrow for the InterContinental Hotel Group. This will be for a range of hospitality work at the Inter Con's property on Hayman Island, Australia, where three Fijians are already working as Commis chefs under the Pacific Labour Scheme.

The Pacific Labour Facility’s Labour Mobility Engagement Manager, Sascha Piggot said the Inter Con would be recruiting hospitality workers as Commis chefs, kitchen stewards, room attendants, public area attendants and for their food and beverage department.

“It’s being reopened after devastating effects from a cyclone,” she said.

Under the PLS, a total of 30 Fijians are being deployed to Australia this week as meat workers, with 19 departing for Naracoorte, South Australia on Monday and 11 leaving tomorrow for Rockhampton in Queensland.

“We have 80 men and women from Fiji who are either already in Australia or about to be deployed to Australia,” Ms Piggot said.

“They are from around the country and anybody is able to register their interest in the PLS by going to any one of the seven NEC offices. They need to bring in relevant qualifications; their curriculum vitae, qualifications, birth certificate etc.”

Aside from meat works and hospitality, Ms Piggot said industries that Australian employers were showing interest in include aged care.

“We’ve not done any recruitment in the aged care sector yet but we expect that to happen in the upcoming months," she noted.

The NEC is responsible for foreign employment with three labour mobility programs; the PLS, Australian Seasonal Work Program and the Recognized Seasonal Worker (RSE).

The Fijian Government signed onto the PLS in April this year, to strengthen employment opportunities for Fijians wanting seasonal work abroad.
