Navatu Secondary School opened two new classrooms this week. The opening of the two new classrooms were held concurrent with the school annual prize giving for 2013.The Permanent Secretary for Education, National Heritage, Culture and Arts, Dr. Brij Lal was chief guest at the two occasion.
The two new rooms will accommodate the Home Economics class which will begin in 2014 and the staff room to ensure that teachers have ample space to prepare thorough lessons.
In delivering his keynote address the Permanent Secretary for Education, Dr. Brij Lal acknowledged the collaboration and foresight of the Navatu community in the establishment of the school 20 years ago.
“The government made a commitment of $100,000 to fully fund these two new classrooms and the underground wiring for the teachers quarters. This is an effort of the government to provide adequate facilities to ensure that quality education is realized in your school,” remarked Dr. Lal.
“The government will continue to pursue possibilities and alternatives that will permit all Fijians to be educated and improve their lives. In 2014, free education will be facilitated to you so make sure you utilize it and excavate the uniqueness in you to become an ambassador for change, peace and progress,” commented the Permanent Secretary.
“It is pleasing to note that the school has been making progress and meeting the growing needs of the Navatu community in terms of providing better education services. The occasion today marks another milestone for your school. This should create enthusiasm that should steer the school to greater dimensions in the years to come,” said Dr. Lal.
In delivering the address for the prize giving, Dr. Lal encouraged students, teachers, parents and the community to work in unison and ensure that education always remains a top priority.
The principal of the school, Mr. Josevata Namata was thankful to the government for its effort in building the two new rooms for the school.
The dux of Navatu Secondary School for 2013 was Asenaca Vakacegumailabasa from Naigigi village.
Asenaca was honoured to receive the top award from the Permanent Secretary and has set clear goals to achieve in the future.
