The newly built classroom blocks at the John Wesley College in Raiwaqa will be an incentive for students to continuously attend classes.
While commending Government for the construction works carried out, the School’s principal Joji Nakaora said that this new development will be an incentive not just for students but for parents as well to send their children to school.
“The roll has been increasing for the past months and this school really needed to upgrade its facilities to more classrooms to facilitate the students who are coming in especially after the phasing out of Laucala Bay Secondary School,” Mr Nakaora said.
“The potential for growth is in this area and we need to encourage our young children to attend school with government’s free education grant offered for all students in the country.
The completion of the new classrooms will accommodate form seven students and school library cost of more than $62,000 funded by Commissioner central’s office.
Commissioner Central Laisenia Tuitubou said this latest development will also benefit parents and students that come from informal settlements and low income earning families.
“The cornerstone of the Bainimarama government’s reforms is to improve the living standards of those ordinary Fijians and one of which is to provide adequate services especially in the education sector,” Mr Tuitubou said.
“Free education provided by government will be very helpful for parents and guarantees education for most of the children in Raiwai and Raiwaqa area,” he said.
