NEW DIGITAL PLATFORMS BOOST REACH OF FIJI’S LOCAL CONTENT

The Minister for Policing and Communications, Hon. Ioane Naivalurua, undertook an official visit to the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC), with discussions highlighting ongoing digital transformation initiatives within the public service broadcasting sector.

A key focus of the visit was an update on FBC’s digital developments, including the Viti+ digital platform and the Sere+ App. These initiatives reflect broader trends in the broadcasting industry to expand access to local content and strengthen connections with audiences in Fiji and abroad.

The visit formed part of ongoing engagements with national communication institutions, reflecting the Government’s commitment to strengthening public service broadcasting and supporting a resilient, inclusive and evolving national communications environment.

During the engagement, the Minister met with the FBC Board, Chief Executive Officer, senior management and staff, and was briefed on FBC’s mandate as a national broadcaster, its public service responsibilities and its role in delivering multi-language content that supports cultural preservation and national identity.

Discussions also addressed the evolving role of public service broadcasting in national development and public information, as well as the importance of professional standards, sustainable local content production and adaptability in a rapidly changing media landscape. The contribution of media to education, community development and social resilience was further highlighted.

The visit underscored the need for broadcasting organisations to remain innovative, forward-looking and responsive to technological change and audience expectations, recognising the role of media in supporting informed and connected communities in the digital era.

The programme concluded with a tour of FBC’s operational facilities and interactions with staff, acknowledging the professionalism and commitment required to deliver reliable broadcasting services to communities across the country.
