NEW DISTRICT OFFICE FOR GAU ISLAND

08/01/2014

A new government station to be constructed on Gau Island later this year will ensure improved government services to communities there and nearby islands in the Lomaiviti Province.
Divisional Commissioner Eastern, Netani Rika said the construction of the new government station on the island was in line with Government’s objectives to reach out to rural and remote areas and to connect them to government services.
“The new government station will boost services on the island and for the Lomaiviti Province as a whole,” Mr Rika said.
“This is all part of Government’s efforts to reach out to rural Fijians as well as ensuring that their expectations and aspirations are met.
“We cannot fail rural people,” Mr Rika added.
The scope of work includes the construction of an office space and quarters to cater for officers that will be stationed on the island.
A sum of $738,000 has been set aside by Government to cater for the development.
