A brand new kindergarten was officially opened today at Ratu Filimoni Loco Memorial Primary School at Burerua village in Sawakasa, Tailevu, by the Prime Minister’s permanent secretary Pio Tikoduadua.
While speaking to students, teachers and parents of the school Mr Tikoduadua reiterated that the Prime Ministers Office attaches great importance towards education.
“This part of Tailevu used to lag behind in education in the past, but I’ve seen signs that we are beginning to prioitise education. It is only through education that one could advance in this era,”Colonel Tikoduadua said.
He said that kindergartens are “stepping stones” for children and commended the Tailevu parents for realising this.
As a token of appreciation for their commitment towards education in the province, Colonel Tikoduadua presented 5 computers and a printer to help students.
“We are giving this computers and it is for you the owner of the school to find ways you can connect it is for you the owner of the school to find ways you can connect these computers to these computers to the internet,” he said.
The new $17,000 kindergarten was funded by the Peoples Community Network and Government and took a few months to complete and will now provide a better space for 27 kindergarten students of Sawakasa.
The new kindy building will cater for pre-school students of five villages of Burerua,Sawakasa no.2, Sawakasa o.1,Dakuinuku, Lodoni, and Nayawasara including other nearby settlements.
Headmaster Filimoni Cama commended Government for assisting education in rural areas like this one in the Sawakasa district.
