Thirty two legal practitioners were officially admitted to the bar this morning (10/8).
Chief Justice Anthony Gates, whilst congratulating the newly admitted legal practitioners said that it was the hope of the general public that the oath they took this morning will remind them to act professionally as a practitioner at all times.
“After today’s euphoria you have to set your sights on the hard grind of the law, success in that task is about attitude ” Justice Gates said.
“You will not become a legend at the Bar in your first year, but you could start by gaining respect and appreciation by making yourself useful in your office, wherever you may begin, in carrying out humble tasks.”
The Chief Justice also reminded the new lawyers that they must refuse to do any act which they believe would be unethical and they must be prepared to take the consequences of their courageous stand.
The 32 legal practitioners also attended a two - day ethics workshop this week prior to their admission.
Also present at the swearing in ceremony were First Lady, Adi Koila Nailatikau, Commissioner of Police, Iowane Naivalurua and members of the Judciary.
