Government has recognized the needs of people living in the greater Nakasi area and continues to provide peace and security to the populace with the groundbreaking of a $35million new Nakasi Police Station.

Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Services, Hon. Inia Seruiratu while speaking at the event highlighted Government’s commitment in prioritizing  the prosperity of all Fijians.

“The construction plans, which is in-line with the Commissioner of Police’s five-year restructure plan, also include a police barrack as welfare plays a major role in ensuring you are able to effectively carry out your duties on a daily basis,” Minister Seruiratu said.

“With more than 25,000 people living and working in the Nakasi and surrounding areas, Police services must complement the flourishing economic environment by aligning its services to the needs of the Nakasi community.”

Minister Seruiratu added that the Nakasi Police Station recorded a reduction in crime cases in the last three years, however, he encouraged the officers to maintain the safety and security of the people and businesses to ensure the confidence of the Nakasi community.

“Having Nakasi tagged as a Tier 1 Police station will assure Fijians who call Nakasi home or conduct their businesses here that they have a police station and trained personnel that can effectively respond to their safety and security needs.”

Prior to being relocated to its current location in 2004, policing services for the Nakasi area were coordinated from the Wainibuku Post.

In 2007, the Nakasi Police Post was elevated to  Station level and there are currently 69 police officers serving the Nakasi community at large.
