27/06/2014

149 newly recruited police officers formally joined the Fiji Police Forces today following their pass out parade at the Nasova Police grounds.

The new recruits went through six months of intensive training in both classroom and outdoor activities in the area of communication and customer service, leadership, criminal laws, acts, decrees and regulations, investigations and community policing.

The Minister for Defence, National Security and Immigration, Joketani Cokanasiga reminded the new police recruits of the need to have a more professional Fiji Police Force.

“You will be assigned to serve the community in different divisions and be in the frontline of policing and are expected to provide quality service. You need to have a high degree of self-discipline and integrity,” Cokanasiga said.

He added the new recruits are entering the Police Force at a critical stage as the nation progresses towards democratic elections this year.

“The Fiji Police Force has a critical role in ensuring our citizens are afforded a safe and secure environment to be able to cast their vote. In this role, you must be unbiased, taking no sides and offering no favours.”

Recruits presented with awards were Iniasa Nasilasila for most improved recruit, Sanjeev Singh for highest achiever in examination and Baton of Honour to Ratu Jone Salele Lanyon.

There are plans to recruit further 155 new officers in the Fiji Police in the coming month.
