NEW YEAR’S SPIRIT AT THE STATE HOUSE

The chorus of gospel songs by the Waiyavi Methodist Circuit from Lautoka rang through the corridors of the State House.

This as more than 100 Sunday School teachers, students and their parents of Waiyavi Methodist Circuit, Lautoka visited the State House this morning as part of their New Year’s field trip.

They had the opportunity to tour the State House, learn about its history and meet His Excellency, the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.

The Head of State, while thanking the children for singing Gospel songs, advised them to embrace the talent they have.

He shared about his visit to the orphanage homes last week for Christmas gift presentation to the children.

“These children are less fortunate as they are not living with their own families and parents as you are. However, you are all children of God and God has given you talents for you to utilise as you get older,” President Katonivere said.

He encouraged the students to envision themselves as the President or the Prime Minister of this country.

“There are a few ways to make this possible, go to church, be obedient, listen to your parents and elders, humility, respect and sharing and caring with the less fortunate next to you. These values will help you be happy and successful in life.”

President Katonivere also encouraged them to work towards their goals despite the circumstances.

“Always envision your future as you progress in your education from primary to secondary and secondary to tertiary. You will go through a lot of challenges from your peers and if you are not careful you will find yourself in bad situations. When you are stuck in these bad situations, don’t be afraid to pick yourself up and start all over again and keep moving forward.”
