The National Fire Authority (NFA) today launched its revamped website designed to provide better access to information on fire safety.
The Minister for Local Government Samuela Saumatua, officiated at today’s event and highlighted that the development of the authority’s website is a crucial component towards achieving their own reform process.
“Fundamental to the reforms are the alignment of the NFA’s services to Government’s development plans and the building of capacity and capability in NFA so that the authority is able to deliver the best standard emergency management services to the people of Fiji,” Colonel Saumatua said.
“As part of these reforms, the NFA is now in the process of finalizing its Strategic Plan for 2013 to 2017 and NFA hopes to submit this Plan for Cabinet endorsement early next month.”
The Minister highlighted that today’s development is aligned closely to the Peoples Charter for Change, by enhancing public sector efficiency, performance effectiveness and service delivery.
The website, www.nfa.com.fj, will bring the NFA’s service delivery closer to Fijians and will be an important information portal for fire mitigation and prevention.
“The launch of this new-look NFA website is very important and timely, especially to the people of this nation as they will have access to relevant and recent information on the reforms being undertaken at NFA and also be able to contribute to and partner NFA on this journey,” Colonel Saumatua said.
He also highlighted that the new website is an important medium for the efficient delivery of fire safety information to the people of Fiji.
“With this launch, I believe the updates of the website will now be handled in-house by NFA personnel and NFA intends to regularly update the website to provide members of the community and the Media with updated progress and information on NFA’s activities”.
“The website will allow for a better interaction between NFA, its stakeholders and members of the community and enable them to access information on the roles and responsibilities of the NFA, requirements relating to fire safety compliance and more importantly, access information that will assist them in taking preventative measures to minimize the impact of fires and disasters.
“To-date, NFA has recorded a total of 44 structural fires and sadly six (6) people have lost their lives as a result of these structural fires. Unfortunately 12 of the fires which resulted in the six fire deaths were intentionally lit, which is of great concern,” Minister Saumatua added.
