The National Fire Authority attended to a Road Accident Rescue on Tuesday (22 June 2010) morning at Tagaqe Road in Sigatoka involving two cars which collided head-on with each other.

This follows emergency call at 0613hrs from the Police.

Upon arrival NFA Sigatoka fire crew found two cars had collided and a lady trapped inside the Nissan Sunny Vehicle.

The firefighters set about extricating the lady who was trapped in the vehicle. The lady was then rushed to the hospital for further medical treatment.

NFA Acting Chief Fire Officer Mr Qionilau Moceitai said despite numerous warning the motorists are not taking heed of the advice given by the Land Transport Authority and the Police Traffic department.

“Our fire crews have been trained for road accident rescue (RAR). They have undergone training in the use of specialist equipment which are used in a traffic accident rescue operation including securing the accident site and emergency care of any casualties.

“The primary objective of any firefighter is to save lives in any emergency situation and expanding our skills into road accident rescue has made a firefighter’s role more challenging,”he said.

NFA is advising all motorists to take extra care while driving on the road.  Drivers should avoid over speeding and the safety of the passengers should be their main priority.
