National Fire Authority attended to a Road Accident Rescue early this morning at Kings Road near Fiji College of Advanced Education Institution in Nasinu where a van collided with the bus.
NFA Valelevu received an emergency call at 0853hrs from the Police and immediately responded.
Upon arrival at 0855hrs NFA Valelevu crew saw a van and a bus collided with each other and two passengers, a woman sitting in the front seat and the driver trapped inside the van.
The firefighters set about extricating a woman and the driver trapped in the van. They were taken to the hospital in a Police Vehicle.
NFA Acting Chief Fire Officer Mr Qionilau Moceitai said despite numerous warning the motorists are not taking heed of the advice given to them by Land Transport Authority and the Police Traffic department.
“NFA is advising the motorists to take extra care while driving on the road, the drivers should avoid over speeding. Safety of the passengers should always be their paramount priority.
“The lives of the public are very important and drivers should always drive carefully and transport them to their destination safely. It’s better for them to reach to their destination safely rather than risking their lives and passengers lives while over-speeding,” Mr Moceitai said.
“Our fire crews have been trained for road accident rescue (RAR). They have undergone training in the use of specialist equipment which is used in a traffic accident rescue operation including securing the accident site and emergency care of any casualties”, Mr Moceitai said.
“The primary objective of any firefighter is to save lives in any emergency situation and expanding our skills into road accident rescue has made a firefighter’s role more challenging."
